Why Hindu tie moli?

  • This blog will cover 3 major points-

  1. A basic introduction as ritual
  2. Significance of moli
  3. Scientific reason (As in Hindu Dharam nothing is without any reason)
  • Red threads are very common among the Hindus. Men as well as women can wear it by doing a very small puja ritual. The red thread is usually tied on the right hand of men and unmarried women, while it is tied on the left hand for married women. You can find this thread in any temple. It is a cotton thread and was at first offered as a cloth to the deity. Wearing this will bring in happiness, health, and prosperity. Significance: The red thread Moli or Mauli or Kalava symbolizes long life and protection against enemies. Hence, it is also called ‘Raksha thread’. It is believed that wearing this will keep God’s blessings with you. The basic significance is to get blessings from God. The thread helps preserve or imbibe those blessings when it is tied around one’s wrist during the ceremony. It is tied with faith on God and asking him/her to save us from all evil outside in the world Scientific reason- There are 72,000 nadis in the human body. These nadis form grandhis or knots in various parts. There is an important grandhi within the wrist. Placing a tiny weight on the wrist activates the nerve centers in that region. This is why Indian women wear bangles, common men tie molis, sanyasis and others involved in spiritual pursuits tie a rudraksha mala around the wrist.
